The ENHANCE Alliance is pleased to welcome two new associated partners: The National Technical University of Ukraine in Kyiv and Lviv Polytechnic National University (Ukraine). Both institutions will join our highly interdisciplinary network of partners from academia, industry, policy-making and society.
ENHANCE aims for a sustainable transformation of our societies through teaching and research. It is based on European Values. It is therefore of great importance to the Alliance to support those European universities whose operations are threatened by war. We want to build a partnership which will build bridges even beyond the current difficult situation and create opportunities in research and teaching in the years to come.
Professor Zaremba, Rector of the Warsaw University of Technology (ENHANCE member university) explained:. “We have had very fruitful collaborations in the past and we wish to strengthen our bond with both universities in these difficult times”. Increased collaborative efforts will provide students and staff of both universities, the opportunity, to take advantage of mobility opportunities at the seven member universities of ENHANCE. Professor Anne Borg, Rector of the Norwegian University of Science and Technology and Chairperson of the ENHANCE Board of Directors said, “ENHANCE is not only an Alliance of seven universities that share an aspiration to promote excellence in education and research, it is also an Alliance which takes its responsibility for the European society seriously”.
The National Technical University of Ukraine was founded in 1898 in Kyiv and holds around 36.000 students. It has 15 faculties and was the first university of the Ukraine that signed the visionary Magna Charta of the European Universities in 2003. Lviv Polytechnic National University was founded in 1816 and holds around 35.000 students. It has 17 faculties and more than 100 departments.
For now, the focus of this collaboration will be on the possibility to let students of both universities benefit from attractive learning offers and to let them participate in our various ENHANCE ecosystems, through both virtual and physical mobility. Our hope for the medium- and long-term will be a reasonable consolidation of both partnerships through increased mobility, an exchange between the student self-government bodies and scientific cooperation. “It is absolutely crucial that we show solidarity with Higher Education Institutions in the Ukraine and provide them with ways to compensate the disruption caused by this horrible war.” says Naveed Syed, Secretary General of the ENHANCE Alliance.
