Shaping Europe through Science & Technology

ENHANCE, the European Universities of Technology Alliance, brings together ten leading European research-intensive universities with a focus on science and technology. Rooted in European values, our Alliance of European Universities of Technology will turn global challenges into opportunities by empowering people with knowledge and competencies in science and technology, to drive responsible transformation for the benefit of society.

ENHANCE offers a geographical network that covers all aspects of European reality and includes many different perspectives on discourse and research on pressing global issues such as climate change, sustainability and urban development:

  • From Spain to Poland, from Norway to Italy: ENHANCE spans across the continent
  • Universities in Metropolitan areas
  • Institutions at coastal/remote in-land locations
  • Partners with a long industrial tradition
  • Universities with a strong emphasis on agriculture

Our Network

ENHANCE is a highly interdisciplinary network uniting academia, industry, policy-makers, and societal organisations in collaborative activities under our various Alliance projects and  initiatives. Acting as a crucial sounding board and active contirbutors, our members and  network partners provide valued insights that are essential to achieving our mission and advancing our shared goals.

Our Members

ENHANCE brings together ten leading research-intensive European universities of technology, united by a commitment to advancing innovative, interdisciplinary education and research that addresses key societal and technological challenges across Europe.

Our Associated Partners

ENHANCE’s associated partners—comprising industry leaders, non-profit organisations, municipalities, and other HEIs—bring essential real-world perspectives and expertise, ensuring that ENHANCE’s educational offerings and innovations align closely with societal and workforce needs.

Our Mission

ENHANCE is dedicated to fostering inclusive and sustainable research and education. By embracing inter- and transdisciplinary approaches, we co-create and exchange knowledge to address the world’s most urgent challenges.

We aim to break down barriers within our ten-member universities and society, ensuring that education and research drive positive social, economic, and environmental impact. Our Alliance is committed to building a shared European knowledge space, upholding the highest standards in teaching, research, inclusiveness, and diversity.

Our vision is a world where scientists and students collaborate with society to develop solutions to global challenges. The European University plays a vital role in this, promoting a values-based European identity that transcends borders. It enables mobility, innovation, inclusion, and digitalization. ENHANCE is building a thriving ecosystem for high-quality higher education in Europe, attracting international talent and staying deeply connected to society and European values.

Our Values

The European values referred to in the Treaty of Lisbon form the basis for all activities within the ENHANCE Alliance to create common European education and research.

Equality and human rights for all citizens are the basis for European integration, underpinning all policy and encompassing all areas. Educational opportunities and exchanges within the European University should be accessible to all, regardless of economic background, special needs or family circumstances. Our ombudsperson for diversity will ensure that these factors are considered in all our activities.

Freedom of thought, autonomy and critical thinking skills are crucial to the development of technology and science in the service of humanity. A student-centred, challenge-based approach to learning will enhance critical thinking and enable progress and innovation. Enhanced freedom of movement between our institutions will foster a common European identity among all members of the Alliance.

In order to ensure democratic procedures, ENHANCE endorses a participatory governance structure and decision-making process characterised by openness, mutual respect and broad participation of relevant groups, which include all members of the university as well as organisations representing the interest of society. Students, as the main stakeholders of the ENHANCE Alliance, have a powerful voice in the governance structure and are co-creators of the educational offers.

The value and dignity of the human being must be at the centre. Our ENHANCE education strategy will ensure that respect for the individual forms the basis for all our teaching, learning, research and administration.

ENHANCE builds on the rule of law as a cornerstone of our society. Our cooperation is based on a clear set of rules, focused on the creation of a transparent system that provides students with information and certainty regarding the academic recognition process.

Our Priority Topics

At ENHANCE, we believe that science and technology are the key to transforming society. It is our goal to get our ENHANCE community future-ready by equipping them with skills that will allow them to contirbute to and creating sustainable positive change in the world.
