ENHANCE STEM Challenge X
Women and Girls in STEM

A collaboration between the
ENHANCE Alliance and
EIT Girls Go Circular

Women remain significantly underrepresented in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) across Europe. According to the European Commission, only 34% of STEM graduates are women, and in fields like engineering and ICT, that number drops to less than 20%. In technical universities — such as those in the ENHANCE Alliance — female students are still the minority in most STEM programmes.

ENHANCE and EIT Girls Go Circular are working together to change this. Through joint action, we aim to increase visibility, access, and opportunities for girls and women in STEM. That’s why ENHANCE supports and co-organises 2025 Women and Girls in STEM  in collaboration with EIT Girls Go Circular.

Why this collaboration?

Rather than creating a new STEM initiative focussing on women, ENHANCE has joined an established, pan-European platform to maximise our reach and impact. By collaborating with the Women and Girls in STEM event, we connect with a broad audience and avoid reinventing the wheel—while advancing our shared goal of addressing the underrepresentation of women in STEM fields.

By this collaboration, we truly intensify our active outreach to empower underrepresented groups in STEM fields (like women in STEM). We aim at having a long-term positive impact on reaching the gender balance in this collaboration.

Our partner’s mission— empowering girls to lead the transition to a sustainable future by driving innovation in the circular economy through STEM education and leadership — aligns perfectly with ENHANCE’s mission, rooted in European values, turning global challenges into opportunities by empowering people with knowledge and competencies in science and technology, to drive responsible transformation for the benefit of society.

Together, we are building bridges between schools and universities, between students and role models, and between passion and opportunity.

What is ENHANCE doing?

ENHANCE contributes meaningfully to the STEM Challenge during the event through several key activities:

  • STEM Mentoring & Ambassadors
Female students from ENHANCE universities—our STEM Ambassadors—share their journeys and act as relatable role-models and storytellers during and beyond the event.
  • Presentation Coaching
Finalist teams receive structured support to boost their confidence and pitch skills for the final competition at the event. They encounter university instructors during the coaching.

This partnership reflects ENHANCE’s mission to promote equity, diversity, and excellence in European STEM education.
