ENHANCE Research Internship Programme

The ENHANCE Alliance is now accepting applications for the ENHANCE Research Internship Programme, offering Master’s and PhD students a unique opportunity to carry out a financed three-month research internship at a partner university abroad. This programme supports international, research-based learning and aims to strengthen cross-border collaboration within the ENHANCE network of leading European Universities of Technology.

The programme is co-financed by the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA) under the “Welcome to Poland” programme and coordinated locally by our ENHANCE partner Gdańsk University of Technology.

Internship Opportunities

A total of 16 placements are available in the 2025–2026 edition:

  • 4 internships for PhD students coming to Gdańsk Tech
  • 4 internships for Gdańsk Tech Master’s students going abroad
  • 4 internships for Gdańsk Tech PhD students going abroad
  • 4 internships for Master’s students coming to Gdańsk Tech

Internships are three months long and are supervised by two academic mentors — one from the student’s home university and one from the host institution.

Deepening impact by strengthening research

The ENHANCE Research Internship Programme contributes directly to the Alliance’s mission of driving responsible societal transformation through academic excellence and international cooperation. The programme supports ENHANCE’s vision of a “One Campus” model, removing barriers to mobility and enabling students and researchers to collaborate across borders. By focusing on real-world research projects, the initiative encourages innovation, intercultural learning, and the development of a European academic community.

Second Call for Applications Now Open

We are pleased to announce the second call for applications is now open. This call invites students to submit research proposals for the 2026–2027 internship period. As in the first round, applicants must prepare a research proposal that includes:

  • Research topic justification
  • Research goals/hypotheses
  • Methodological framework
  • Potential research impact
  • Expected learning outcomes
  • Justification of mentor selection

Projects can be developed in one of two ways:

  1. Joint development and approval of the project — in cooperation with a mentor from the home institution and a mentor from the host university.
  2. Preparation of the project plan with a mentor from the home institution, which will then be reviewed and approved by a mentor from the host university.

Given the high demand for this internship opportunity, we expect more applications than available placements. Proposals will be evaluated by the ENHANCE Research Internship Committee, and selected students will receive funding based on a transparent ranking process. Upon successful completion of the programme, students will receive a certificate confirming the acquired learning outcomes.

Key Dates

  • Application period: 19 December 2025 – 15 February 2026
  • Ranking publication: 21 February 2026
  • Appeal period: 7 days from ranking announcement
  • Internship period: 1 April 2026 — 31 August 2026

Selection will be based on a transparent, merit-based evaluation by the ENHANCE Research Internship Committees.

Successful candidates will receive financial support and a certificate upon completion.

Open Call for Mentors

Mentorship is a key component of the programme. Each intern is supported by two mentors, who:

  • Assist in formulating the internship proposal
  • Provide ongoing academic supervision
  • Support the intern in achieving research goals
  • Review the final internship report

Faculty from all ENHANCE institutions are invited to take part. This is an excellent opportunity to support student development, build academic partnerships, and contribute to international research collaboration.
