ENHANCE Summer Season 2024: A Triumph of Collaborative Learning and Innovation

Students from all across Europe enjoyed the ENHANCE Summer Schools 2024 🌞

The ENHANCE Alliance is proud to celebrate yet another successful summer season, marked by three dynamic and impactful summer schools that took place across our member universities. This season, we continued our tradition of fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, innovative thinking, and academic excellence. Each of these programmes not only broadened perspectives but also contributed significantly to the academic and professional growth of our students, faculty, and staff.

Synergic Urban Systems Summer School at Politecnico di Milano

The second edition of the ENHANCE Blended Intensive Summer School on Synergic Urban Systems was a testament to the power of collaborative learning. Hosted by Politecnico di Milano, this programme brought together students from seven ENHANCE universities for a two-month online collaboration, culminating in an intensive week in Milan. Participants from diverse fields such as architecture, urban planning, design, and social sciences worked together to co-create transformative visions for the Santa Giulia site, which is set to play a pivotal role in the 2026 Winter Olympics. The programme featured site visits, workshops, and engagements with key stakeholders, enabling students to develop innovative and sustainable proposals for urban transformation. The success of this summer school underscores the strength of the ENHANCE Alliance in elevating academic profiles and fostering a collaborative spirit among our member universities.

“The Milan Summer School was an important opportunity to connect with peers and expand my network with skilled students from various fields and countries. It was great to make new friends of different cultures and working with people of different backgrounds.”.

Gender & Diversity in Science, Technology, and Society Micro Programme at Technische Universität Berlin

This summer also marked the inaugural ENHANCE Micro Programme on Gender & Diversity in Science, Technology, and Society, hosted by Technische Universität Berlin. This pioneering initiative provided a platform for students, teachers, and staff from across the ENHANCE Alliance to delve into the intersections of gender, diversity, and technology. The programme covered a wide range of topics, from historical perspectives to contemporary challenges, and encouraged deep reflection and collaboration. Key sessions included an exploration of diversity in robotics led by Pat Treusch, and insightful discussions on the interplay between gender, diversity, and climate change, guided by Sahra Dornick and Prof. Petra Lucht. The participants’ outstanding commitment and insight throughout the programme laid a strong foundation for future discussions and developments in these critical areas. The success of this programme highlights the ENHANCE Alliance’s commitment to addressing pressing societal issues through education and collaboration.

We are looking for a change. We know that now the world is facing big problems, so the fact that future professionals from different countries can train together and create ties to work together in the future is simply great.”

BLUE-GREEN-IN Climate Change Summer School at Politechnika Warszawska

In July, the third edition of the BLUE-GREEN-IN Climate Change Summer School took place at Politechnika Warszawska, in collaboration with RWTH Aachen University and Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV). This programme focused on nature-based solutions to climate change, combining online workshops, hands-on field activities, and innovative group projects. Students from five ENHANCE member universities explored the impact of urban ecosystems and collaborated on sustainable solutions, earning ECTS credits in the process. This summer school exemplified the spirit of the ENHANCE Alliance by promoting future-oriented, interdisciplinary solution-finding. The dedication of both the participants and the organizing teams, particularly the warm hospitality extended by the Politechnika Warszawska team, ensured that this experience was both educational and unforgettable.

Attending the Summer School in Warszawa was a game-changer! Warm people, enriching experiences, and nourishing knowledge made it unforgettable. I tackled problems in new ways and hit exciting milestones. Plus, the cultural exchange with classmates and locals opened up fresh perspectives and endless possibilities. Best decision ever.”
