The ENHANCE staff week entitled “Enhancing intercultural skills for the international workplace will take place at RWTH Aachen, Germany, from 16 to 20 October. Technical and administrative staff wishing to improve their international and intercultural skills can participate in the selection process organised by each university (applying the guidelines for bias-aware selection) before 15 September. Two to three participants per ENHANCE partner can attend, and we strongly encourage staff with little or no experience in international mobility programmes to apply.

Increasing everyone’s skills for their everyday work

Everyone deserves the opportunity to broaden their horizons through international education, this is why ENHANCE staff members don’t need any international experience to apply and participate in this staff week. The goal is to increase everyone’s skills to improve their communication with international students, researchers, and staff in their daily work.

With a complete programme, the participants will get the opportunity to work in specific formats for four days. Each day will have its special focus with day one being about internationalisation, day two about intercultural communication, and day three about language training, which will continue on day four before the closing event. During various activities such as workshops, training, or job shadowing, the participants will exchange with the coordinators and also with each other about their work. This exchange in itself will be a first step towards an improvement of their international skills.

An international and intercultural experience

Indeed, with participants expected from the ENHANCE member universities, many nationalities will be represented. Staff members will learn about best practices for internationalisation or communication across different cultures and then they will get the chance to apply this new knowledge right away.

Besides the training programme, social activities are also important for intercultural exchanges. RWTH Aachen organised guided city tours, group dinner or lunch, and a closing event in the SkyLounge on the roof of the university’s main building with a stunning view of the city centre.

The ENHANCE Alliance is glad to be able to offer its technical and administrative staff members the opportunity to develop their international skills and exchange with their colleagues from all around Europe. If you are interested, don’t hesitate to contact your university and apply for the staff week in Aachen!
